Application engineering brief

Battery Vent Flame Protection Components

Converted protection around defined vent paths, heat/flame exposure and normal-service sealing requirements.

Representative die-cut vent and sealing component geometry
Representative converted component. Final construction, material grade and performance requirements are made to the customer drawing and validated application conditions.

The engineering problem

Start with the installed interface.

A normal-service enclosure seal and an emergency gas-release path have different pressure, flow, temperature and failure-mode requirements.

We review vent-adjacent shields, seals and membranes as integration components—not as substitutes for the system vent or fire strategy.

Position and function

Where this component works—and what it must do

  • Cell vent-adjacent area
  • Pack pressure vent
  • Lid outlet
  • ESS cabinet vent path
  • Enclosure seam near exhaust
  • Protect adjacent surfaces
  • Direct or isolate local heat paths
  • Seal normal-service interfaces
  • Support defined opening and exhaust geometry

Selection logic

Decision data customers and engineers expect

Decision dimensionWhat must be defined
Normal dutySpecify ingress, leak and environmental requirements.
Event dutySpecify gas flow, pressure, temperature and vent direction.
Failure modeDefine opening, tearing, blockage and downstream exposure acceptance.
MaterialsCheck chemical compatibility with expected condensate and service fluids.

Data required

Send these inputs for a useful first review

  • Vent and enclosure drawing
  • Normal leak/IP requirement
  • Event flow, pressure and temperature
  • Opening/reseat or rupture behavior
  • Media compatibility and cycle requirement

Frequently asked questions

Clear answers before sampling

Does IP67 mean gas-tight?

No. IP ratings classify dust and water ingress at enclosure level, not emergency gas flow or explosion protection.

Can one membrane handle normal and event venting?

That depends on its flow and failure behavior. Both operating regimes must be specified and tested.

Can VOLTFEND design the whole vent?

We provide converted components and DFM support; complete vent-system responsibility and validation remain project-specific.
